Terms of Service
Effective September 3, 2026
These terms cover the services Identizen operates: the public index at index.identizen.com, the dashboard at app.identizen.com, the Identizen app, and this website and its documentation. By using them you agree to these terms.
The software
Identizen is open core. The protocol, the index, the SDKs, the CLI, the dashboard and the phone app are open source under the Apache License 2.0 and are provided as is, without warranty; a deployment of that software you run yourself is governed by that license alone, not by these terms. The enterprise editions (Identizen Cloud and the on-prem edition) are proprietary and governed by their order form or license agreement.
The hosted services
- The public index is offered free of charge for personal identities. We aim to keep it available but do not guarantee availability, and we may change or discontinue it with reasonable notice posted on this site and in the app.
- Sites may register with the public index to accept Identizen sign-ins. Site operators are responsible for their own users, content, and compliance.
- Enterprise customers receive the availability, support, and data-processing commitments in their order form and data-processing agreement, which take precedence over these terms where they conflict.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the services to:
- attack, probe, or overload the services or any site that uses them;
- impersonate another person or site, or send sign-in requests to people who did not ask for them;
- register sites for phishing, fraud, or the distribution of malware;
- circumvent rate limits, revocation, or any other security control.
We may disable sites, devices, or identities that we reasonably believe are doing so.
Your identity
Your private keys and recovery phrase exist only on your devices and in your own records. We cannot recover a lost recovery phrase for a personal identity and cannot sign in as you. You are responsible for keeping your phone and recovery phrase secure. Sites keep their own account-recovery paths.
The app
The Identizen app is licensed to you for use on Apple devices you own or control, under Apple's standard licensed application end user license agreement in addition to these terms. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide support for it.
Privacy
How we handle data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The hosted services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of the services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the free services is limited to one hundred US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
Termination
You can stop using the services at any time and remove your identity from your devices. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination do so.
Changes
We will post material changes here with a new effective date and, for enterprise customers, notify the account contact. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance of the changed terms.
